Gudauri is Georgia's largest ski resort, on the Georgian Military Highway at 2,200 metres, two hours from Tbilisi. Its slopes face south across a treeless bowl of the Caucasus, with lifts rising above three thousand metres, reliable snow from December to April, and some of Europe's most accessible off-piste and heli-skiing.
Outside winter the resort becomes a base for paragliding, hiking and the views from the Soviet-era Friendship Monument on the pass above. The road continues north to Stepantsminda and the Gergeti church, making Gudauri a natural stop on the Kazbegi route in any season.
Hotels range from modern ski-in chalets to simple guesthouses; the resort is easy to combine with Tbilisi for a week of skiing and city.
