Itinerary

Day 1Tbilisi → Zugdidi (Dadiani palace) → Enguri dam → Mestia. Overnight Mestia.

Day 24×4 to Ushguli: Lamaria church, the towers, optional walk towards the Shkhara glacier. Return to Mestia. Overnight.

Day 3Hatsvali cable car or Chalaadi glacier walk; Svaneti museum; return to Tbilisi (late) or Kutaisi/Batumi.

Can we fly to Mestia?
Yes, weather permitting; we then meet you with the car. The drive back via the Black Sea coast is a good alternative.

Is Ushguli reachable in winter?
Usually not by road; the tour becomes a ski and snowshoe programme around Mestia.

Cancellation

Free cancellation up to 7 days before the tour. Between 7 days and 48 hours: 50 % of the price. Less than 48 hours or no-show: no refund. If a mountain road closes and the tour cannot run, you choose a new date or a full refund.

Payment

20 % deposit confirms the booking. Deposit by card or bank transfer when the date is confirmed; the balance in cash or by card at the start of the tour. No hidden fees — fuel, parking, driver and guide are included; entrance tickets, meals and hotels are listed per tour.

Insurance

Since 1 January 2026 every foreign visitor to Georgia must hold health and accident insurance with cover of at least 30,000 GEL — see our guide to the rule. Our vehicles carry passenger liability insurance; your travel policy covers you.

How long is this tour and when does it start?

It is a 3-day, 2-night private tour departing Tbilisi at 08:30 or any time you prefer, since every departure is private. You return to your Tbilisi hotel on day 3 in the early evening. The itinerary covers Zugdidi, Mestia, and Ushguli with stops along the way.

What is included and what is not?

Yes. Pickup from Kutaisi, Batumi, the airports or any address in Georgia can be arranged; the price adjusts for the extra distance and we confirm it in writing before you book. See also our airport transfers and car-with-driver service at gtour.ge/services/.

Can we fly to Mestia instead of driving?

Yes, flying is possible weather permitting, and the guide will meet you with the car on arrival. If you fly in, driving back via the Black Sea coast is suggested as a good alternative route for the return.

Is Ushguli accessible in winter?

Usually not by road, as winter conditions typically close the route. In that case the tour is adapted into a ski and snowshoe programme based around Mestia instead.

What is the best season for this trip?

June to October is recommended for reaching Ushguli by road, while winter months suit skiing around Mestia and Hatsvali instead. Warm layers are advised in any month given the altitude in Svaneti.

Is this tour suitable for children or travellers with limited mobility?

The minimum age listed is 1, so young children can join, but note that day 1 involves an 8-9 hour drive and day 2 includes a 4x4 trip to Ushguli with an optional glacier-ward walk. Travellers with limited mobility should consider the long drive and uneven terrain around Ushguli and the glacier walk before booking.

How many people will be on the tour and is it private?

This is a private tour with your own car, driver, and English-speaking guide, not a group tour. The listed price is per person based on two travellers; solo travellers or larger groups are quoted on request.

Where does the tour start and can it begin from Kutaisi or Batumi instead of Tbilisi?

The standard departure is from your hotel in Tbilisi, with collection there. On day 3 the return can be arranged to Kutaisi or Batumi instead of Tbilisi, and starting from Kutaisi or Batumi can likely be arranged on request, so check this when booking.

What should we pack, and what about payment or cancellation terms?

Private tour, priced per person for two travelling together (see the price table above for 1, 3 and 4–6 travellers). A deposit of 20 % confirms the booking; the balance is paid on arrival or by secure card link before the tour. Free cancellation up to 7 days before departure, 50 % refund up to 48 hours before, no refund after that; if a mountain pass closes we re-route or reschedule at no cost.
