A day in Kakheti built around chacha: pomace, copper stills, a family cellar, and lunch with the people who make it.
- —Visit a working copper-still distillery and watch the full process, not a tasting-room demo
- —See how chacha starts as pomace left over from qvevri wine, linking the two traditions in one day
- —Lunch cooked by the producing family, eaten at their table rather than a restaurant
- —A stop in Sighnaghi for the fortress wall and the view over the Alazani valley
- —Private car for the day, so no fixed group schedule and no other travellers
- —Suitable for spirits-focused travellers who have already done a standard wine tour

- · Chacha is usually 45-60% alcohol by volume; tastings are measured pours, not full glasses
- · Drive time Tbilisi to Kakheti is around two hours each way, longer with the Sighnaghi detour
- · October is active production season after the grape harvest, so this is a good month to see fresh pomace in use
- · Walking is limited to short distances on flat or gently sloped ground, including the Sighnaghi wall
- · Bring a light jacket, Kakheti evenings are cooler than Tbilisi
- · The driver does not drink; if you want to taste freely, this private format avoids any issue with self-driving
Is this tour suitable if I don't drink spirits
The distillery visit and process explanation stand on their own, and lunch includes wine and non-alcoholic options, so it works even without tasting chacha.
Can children join
Children are welcome on the cellar and distillery walk-through, though the tasting portion is for adults only.
Which days does the distillery operate
Family distilleries in Kakheti run on a seasonal and informal schedule; exact opening days are checked at booking.
Do we visit Bodbe convent as well
Bodbe is not included in this itinerary; if you want St Nino's tomb added, our Sighnaghi and Bodbe day trip covers it directly, or ask us to adjust this route.
Prices are per person for two travelling together, in euros; solo travellers and larger groups are quoted on request. Every departure is private and adjusted to you. Hotels, wineries and restaurants on our routes are verified by GTour.
