- Visit as part of a wider Telavi-based day out, not as a single destination — pair it with nearby churches, fortress towns or other wine estates.
- November suits travellers who want to see vineyard structure and post-harvest cellar work, rather than the summer's green, crowded vine rows.
- Arrange transport in advance — Vardisubani is reached via Telavi, and self-driving or a pre-booked driver is the most practical option in this rural stretch of Kakheti.
Kakheti in November has a particular rhythm. The harvest is done, the qvevri are sealed, and the vineyards along the road from Telavi to Vardisubani have shed their leaves to reveal the bare geometry of the vines against the Alazani Valley. It is into this quieter stretch of the wine calendar that Gevelli fits well — a winery that rewards travellers who want to understand process rather than spectacle.
Gevelli was established in 2014 near the ancient city of Telavi, in the village of Vardisubani, by a partnership of Georgian and Polish investors drawn to the region’s winemaking traditions. Over the past decade the estate has built out a 40-hectare vineyard in the Tsinandali microzone, one of Kakheti’s recognised terroirs, paired with modern production facilities. The combination of long-standing local grape-growing knowledge and newer equipment gives the winery a distinct position among Kakheti’s producers: rooted in place, but built with an outward-looking approach to craft.
Why visit in November
This is the season when the vineyard itself tells the clearest story. With the leaves down, the training systems, soil, and the lay of the land toward the Caucasus foothills are easy to read, something that is far less visible during the lush, crowded summer months. Cellar activity, meanwhile, is in full swing as wines from the recent harvest continue their development — a point in the calendar that offers a more grounded sense of how Kakhetian winemaking actually proceeds through the year, beyond the romanticised image of the harvest itself.
Gevelli suits travellers who are already building a Kakheti itinerary around Telavi, rather than those seeking a single standalone attraction. It works best as one stop among several, paired with the town’s historic core, nearby churches, and other wine estates scattered through the surrounding villages. The region’s fortress towns and viewpoints over the Alazani Valley are within easy reach by road, making it straightforward to combine a morning at Gevelli with an afternoon elsewhere in the wine country.
Access is uncomplicated: Telavi functions as the practical base for this part of Kakheti, with onward roads connecting to Vardisubani and the wider network of wine villages. Travellers without their own transport typically arrange a driver or join a guided day trip from Telavi or further afield, given the rural, dispersed nature of the estates in this area.
Gevelli is listed in the Georgian National Tourism Administration’s official register, and its details were verified by GTour on 16 October 2026. As with any rural estate, conditions can shift with the season, so travellers are encouraged to confirm specifics directly before visiting.
