Hotel Chiatureli — Hotel in Imereti, Georgia

In short

Hotel Chiatureli is a small hotel in the centre of Chiatura, the manganese-mining town in the Zemo Imereti region of western Georgia. The hotel says it combines “authentic historical charm” with a “modern and calm” stay, offering standard, luxe and family rooms, a restaurant serving Imeretian dishes, an outdoor swimming pool, and access to the family’s own winery, Solomone. The property is run as a family concern, with the owning family also behind the on-site wine production.

The building and its history

The hotel’s own materials do not give a construction date, an architect’s name, or a record of what the building was originally used for. What the hotel does say is that its architecture “celebrates the town’s unique industrial heritage” while providing contemporary comforts, and that each room draws on local craftsmanship. No further dated facts about the conversion of the building into a hotel are published on the official site, so a timeline cannot be given with certainty.

What can be added from general knowledge of the area is that Chiatura grew rapidly from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as a centre of manganese mining, and that the town is known internationally for the network of Soviet-era cable cars built to carry miners up and down its steep cliffs, several of which have survived and been partly restored. Hotel Chiatureli sits within this mining-town setting, and the hotel frames its own story, and that of the family winery on its grounds, as part of a wider effort to show that Chiatura has more to offer visitors than its industrial past.

The one dated element the hotel does confirm concerns the family winery rather than the hotel building itself: Solomone winery, located on the family’s land in Chiatura, was established in 2018.

Rooms and suites

The hotel lists three room categories on its official site:

• Standard Room – 20 sqm, one double bed, for up to 2 guests.
• Luxe – 26 sqm, one double bed and one single bed, for up to 4 guests; the hotel notes breakfast with this category.
• Family Room – made up of two connecting 28 sqm rooms with a total of four beds (described as two double beds and one single bed), for up to 6 guests.

The hotel’s general description says that rooms are designed to offer views of the surrounding landscape, which it describes as changing with the seasons, though it does not specify which categories face which direction or landmark.

Restaurants, bars and venues

Restaurant
The hotel’s restaurant serves Georgian cuisine with an Imeretian emphasis. The hotel describes it as a place to try the region’s traditional dishes, and its wider text mentions locally sourced ingredients and relationships with local artisans and producers.

Solomone Winery
Solomone is the family winery attached to the hotel, established in 2018 on land in Chiatura that the hotel says belonged to the family’s great-great-grandfather, Solomon Lezhava. The hotel recounts that the current winemaker’s father, Gulda Chachanidze, was a professional winemaker during the Soviet era and passed on the craft, and that during a renovation of the family house, four 1,200-litre qvevri were found in its foundations; three were damaged, and wine is still produced in the one that survived intact. The winery says its labels carry Braille lettering as a tribute to a grandfather who lost his sight but, in the family’s account, retained his ability to judge wine by smell and taste. Solomone states a production capacity of 35,000 bottles, with 3 hectares of vineyard planted with vines aged between 8 and 15 years, and says it works exclusively with Imeretian grape varieties: Tsitska, Tsolikouri, Krakhuna and Dzelshavi.

Wellness, pool and fitness

The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool measuring 10 by 5 metres, which it describes as suitable for 7 to 8 guests at a time. No spa, fitness room or other wellness facility is mentioned on the official site.

Meetings and events

The hotel’s official materials do not describe any dedicated meeting rooms, conference space or event facilities. Prospective organisers would need to contact the hotel directly to ask about capacity for groups.

Awards and memberships

No awards, ratings or industry memberships are stated on the hotel’s official website.

Prices and booking

The official site does not publish nightly rates for its room categories. Travellers wanting current prices and availability should check the official booking channels directly; the hotel lists a contact email, info@chiatureli.com, and a phone number, +995 479 25 24 10, with reception described as available 24/7.

Location and getting there

Hotel Chiatureli’s address is 1st Turn N8, Nodar Chachanidze Street, in Chiatura, in the Zemo Imereti region of western Georgia. Chiatura itself is built into a river gorge and surrounded by cliffs, which is why the town developed its distinctive network of cable cars to move workers between the valley floor and the mining settlements above; several of these cable-car stations and the town’s Soviet-era industrial architecture are among its best-known sights.

In general geographic terms, Chiatura lies off the main Tbilisi–Kutaisi highway, reached via a turn near Zestaponi, and is roughly a three-hour drive from Tbilisi and somewhat over an hour from Kutaisi International Airport, Georgia’s nearest airport serving the region, depending on road conditions in the hills. The hotel’s own site does not give exact drive times or distances, so travellers should confirm timings when booking transport.
