Shop at Dezerter Bazaar, then fold khinkali and bake Imeretian khachapuri in a Tbilisi family kitchen, finishing with the lunch you cooked.
- —Starts at Dezerter Bazaar, Tbilisi's main produce and spice market, with a working explanation of what you are buying and why
- —Hands-on folding of khinkali, not a demonstration, with enough dough to get the pleats wrong a few times before they work
- —Covers three staples in one session: khinkali, Imeretian khachapuri and at least one pkhali
- —Lunch is the food you made, served with wine at the same table
- —Recipe cards to take home, written in plain steps rather than restaurant shorthand
- —Morning or evening sessions available, useful for fitting around a flight or an afternoon tour
- ✓ Market visit at Dezerter Bazaar with your host
- ✓ All ingredients for khinkali, khachapuri and pkhali
- ✓ Hands-on instruction in English
- ✓ Apron and equipment for the class
- ✓ The lunch you cook, with wine
- ✓ Recipe cards to take home
- — Hotel pick-up and drop-off
- — Extra purchases at the market for personal use
- — Alcohol beyond the wine served with lunch
- — Gratuities
- · The market portion is outdoors and can be crowded; wear comfortable shoes
- · The kitchen session involves standing, chopping and working with hot dough, so flag any mobility concerns in advance
- · Tell us about dietary restrictions or allergies when booking; a vegetarian version replaces the meat khinkali
- · Morning and evening start times are both available, checked at booking
- · Group size is kept small, usually up to six people, so book ahead in peak season
Is this a private class or shared with other travellers?
Both options exist. Private sessions for your own group and small shared sessions with other travellers are available, checked at booking.
Can vegetarians join?
Yes, the khinkali filling can be made meat-free and the khachapuri and pkhali are already vegetarian.
Can children take part?
Children old enough to fold dough and handle a rolling pin are welcome; let us know ages when booking.
What if I only want the cooking, not the market visit?
The market stop is part of the standard format because it explains the ingredients, but shorter versions without it can be arranged on request.
Prices are per person for two travelling together, in euros; solo travellers and larger groups are quoted on request. Every departure is private and adjusted to you. Hotels, wineries and restaurants on our routes are verified by GTour.
