A three-day crossing of Khevsureti from Juta over the Chaukhi Pass (3,338 m) to the Abudelauri lakes and Roshka, with a mountain guide and a horse to carry the gear.
- —Crosses the Chaukhi Pass at 3,338 m, one of the higher trekking routes accessible without technical climbing gear
- —Reaches the three Abudelauri lakes, known locally as the Green, White and Blue lakes, each a different colour from glacial and mineral runoff
- —Horse support carries the main packs over the pass, so you walk with a day pack only
- —Licensed mountain guide accompanies the full trek, not just a driver who drops you at the trailhead
- —Finishes in Roshka, a Khevsureti village rarely reached on standard Kazbegi day trips
- —Guesthouse night in Juta plus a night on the trail, giving a genuine two-day crossing rather than an out-and-back walk

- · This route is normally walked from late June to late September; by late October snow on the Chaukhi Pass is likely and the crossing may need to be reduced to an out-and-back from Juta, assessed by the guide on the day
- · The pass day involves roughly 7–8 hours of walking with a sustained climb to 3,338 m; previous trekking experience at altitude is recommended
- · Weather on the pass changes quickly; bring layers, a windproof shell, and gloves even in summer
- · No mobile signal beyond Juta in most areas; carry cash, there are no shops past Juta
- · Sturdy broken-in hiking boots are required, trail shoes are not sufficient for the pass terrain
- · Road from Tbilisi to Stepantsminda can be slow in poor weather; current status at gtour.ge/road-status/
Do we sleep in tents or a guesthouse on night two?
Depending on conditions and availability we use either a mountain camp near the Abudelauri lakes or a guesthouse in Roshka; this is confirmed before departure, checked at booking.
Is this trek suitable for someone without high-altitude experience?
A reasonable fitness level and some hiking background are needed; the guide assesses pace and can advise before booking whether the route suits your experience.
What happens if the pass is closed by snow or weather?
The guide may substitute an out-and-back trek from Juta to the Chaukhi base or an alternative valley walk, with no change to the price.
