Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti is one of Georgia’s largest administrative regions, stretching from the lowland city of Zugdidi, Poti and Anaklia near the Black Sea up into the high mountain villages of Svaneti, including Mestia and Becho. Because the region joins these two very different landscapes under one administrative name, a traveller planning a trip through western Georgia often needs lodging in both zones: a base in or near Zugdidi before heading north, and a place to stay once in the mountains around Mestia.

This list was compiled by the GTour desk from Georgia’s national register of licensed accommodation providers. Entries were selected on the basis of location within the region, an established, verifiable presence (address and, in most cases, a working website), and what each property offers a traveller passing through Samegrelo or Svaneti. No payment was accepted for inclusion, and no ratings are claimed by GTour; any star ratings mentioned below are those stated by the properties themselves in the register.

How to use this list

Readers planning a route through western Georgia can use this list to separate lowland and highland stays: Zugdidi properties such as Iberia Palace work well as a stop before or after driving into the mountains, while the Mestia- and Becho-based hotels suit the Svaneti leg of a trip. As with any register-based list, travellers should confirm current details such as availability and facilities directly with each property before booking, since GTour’s inclusion criteria cover location, established presence and registration status only, not service quality or pricing.
