- The Pshaveli–Abano–Omalo road is closed to all vehicles between km22 and km72 due to snow and ice.
- The first section, km1 to km21, remains open to traffic.
- Travellers heading to Tusheti should check road conditions before departure and expect the route to remain closed until weather improves.
The Roads Department of Georgia has closed the Pshaveli–Abano–Omalo road between km22 and km72 due to snow and ice conditions. The closure affects the high mountain pass section leading toward Tusheti, one of Georgia’s most remote tourist regions.
The first 21 kilometres of the route, from Pshaveli, remain open to all vehicles. However, the closed stretch covers the higher, more exposed portion of the road through the Abano Pass, a route known for its difficult terrain and seasonal closures.
No reopening date has been announced. Road authorities typically reassess such closures as weather conditions change.
What it means for travellers
Travellers planning to visit Tusheti via the Abano Pass should check the Roads Department’s website before setting out, as the route is currently impassable beyond km22. Alternative travel plans or postponement should be considered until conditions improve. Those already in the Pshaveli area can still access the first 21 km of the road but should not attempt to proceed further.
