Kenya safari pricing spans an enormous range, from roughly $150 per person per night at a basic tented camp to $2,500 at a private luxury conservancy — both marketed under the same word, “safari”. Industry data drawn from more than 1,200 itineraries sold between 2020 and 2024, alongside Kenya Association of Tour Operators benchmarks and Kenya Wildlife Service fee schedules, puts the average mid-range cost at around $487 per person per night, excluding international flights.
Beyond the nightly rate, budgets need to absorb Masai Mara conservancy and reserve fees of $200–230 per person per night, domestic flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Mara (about 45 minutes, $300–400 return), and tips of $15–25 per day for guides plus $5–10 for camp staff. Evacuation cover through the Flying Doctor service, from roughly $25 per trip, is considered essential. Travellers from Europe or the Caucasus should also budget for the long-haul leg itself: London–Nairobi return fares typically run £500–900, with no direct connections from Tbilisi.
Three tiers dominate the market: budget camps ($100–250/night) with shared facilities and basic transport; mid-range tented camps ($250–600/night), where most visitors book and wildlife access is often strong, especially in private conservancies; and high-end camps ($600–2,500+/night) offering exclusive game-drive areas, senior guides and all-inclusive pricing covering park fees and insurance.
A representative seven-night itinerary — three nights in the Masai Mara, two in Amboseli, two in Nairobi, mid-range accommodation with domestic flights — comes to roughly $4,500–6,500 per person, before international airfare and tips. Operators note that wildlife sightings differ little between mid-range and luxury camps in the same conservancy; the price gap chiefly buys guide exclusivity, private vehicles and extras like night drives.
