Georgia is a compact but climatically varied country. Tbilisi sits in a continental zone with hot summers and cool winters, the Black Sea coast around Batumi is humid subtropical, and the high mountain regions of Kazbegi, Svaneti and Tusheti have their own short, intense seasons shaped by snow. Choosing when to go depends on whether the plan is city sightseeing, wine country, beach time, or mountain trekking.
Overview: the best months
For most travellers combining Tbilisi, Kakheti wine country, and some mountain scenery, May-June and September-October offer the best balance of mild weather, open mountain roads, manageable crowds, and seasonal events such as the autumn grape harvest. July and August are busiest and hottest inland but ideal for the coast. Winter suits skiers and those visiting for Orthodox Christmas and New Year.
