- Road travel between Tbilisi and Batumi can now take around four hours, according to the Economy Minister's statement.
- Travellers should still allow extra time for traffic, weather or roadworks, as no specific route or date details were given.
- Check current road conditions and travel apps before planning door-to-door timing.
Georgia’s Minister of Economy has said that visitors to the country can now travel between Tbilisi and Batumi in around four hours, a notable reduction compared with previous journey times on the route.
The statement did not specify which infrastructure improvements led to the shorter travel time, nor did it provide details on specific sections of the highway or any new bypasses. The route remains the main road corridor linking the capital with Georgia’s Black Sea coast and the Adjara region.
No official date was given for when the four-hour benchmark became achievable, and the ministry did not release accompanying statistics on traffic volumes or average speeds along the corridor.
What it means for travellers
Those driving or taking road transport between Tbilisi and Batumi may now expect a shorter overall journey. However, actual travel times can still vary depending on traffic, weather conditions and time of departure, so travellers should build in a buffer when planning connections or activities at either end.
