Itinerary

Day 1Leave [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/) early and drive north through Alvani, then climb the unpaved Abano Pass road to 2,850 m before descending into Tusheti and reaching Omalo by afternoon. Settle into a guesthouse in Omalo's upper village and walk among its stone defensive towers before dinner.

Day 2Drive from Omalo to [Dartlo](https://gtour.ge/georgia/dartlo/), a cluster of medieval stone towers and houses on a hillside above the Tushetiskhevi river, with time to walk through the village on foot. Continue to Diklo, the last village before the ridge marking the border area, then return to Omalo or Dartlo for the second night, guesthouse meals included.

Day 3Visit Shenako on the way out, a village known for its wooden church, then retrace the route back over the Abano Pass to [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/), arriving in the evening depending on road conditions.

Good to know

- · The road is unpaved, narrow and exposed in sections, a 4×4 with an experienced driver is not optional on this route

- · Bring warm layers even in summer, Tusheti nights are cold at altitude and weather changes quickly

- · Mobile signal is patchy to absent through most of the region, let people know in advance

- · Guesthouses are simple, often shared bathrooms, bring a torch and basic toiletries

- · Bring cash in Georgian lari; there are no ATMs once you leave Alvani
