Four days from [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/)'s Old Town to Gergeti Trinity Church below Mount Kazbek, then Kakheti's walled town of [Sighnaghi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/sighnaghi/) and the vineyards around [Telavi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/telavi/).

The route

[Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/)[Mtskheta](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mtskheta/)[Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/)[Sighnaghi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/sighnaghi/)[Telavi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/telavi/)

Why this tour

Itinerary

Day 1Morning walking tour of Old [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/) (Narikala fortress, Metekhi, the sulphur bath district), then an afternoon drive to [Mtskheta](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mtskheta/) to see Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, both UNESCO-listed. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 2Drive the Georgian Military Highway north, stopping at Ananuri fortress and Gudauri, then transfer to 4×4 for the climb to Gergeti Trinity Church above [Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/) (2h55 from [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/) under normal conditions). Overnight in Stepantsminda, below Mount Kazbek.

Day 3Drive south into Kakheti and on to [Sighnaghi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/sighnaghi/), a restored walled town above the Alazani valley. Visit Bodbe Convent, burial place of St Nino, then walk the town's fortress walls before evening free time. Overnight in Sighnaghi.

Day 4Morning in [Telavi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/telavi/), Kakheti's regional capital, with the royal palace grounds and the old plane tree, followed by a stop at Alaverdi or Ikalto monastery and a wine tasting at a family cellar. Good to know

- · The Georgian Military Highway can close for snow or landslides between autumn and spring; check gtour.ge/road-status before travel

- · Reaching Gergeti Trinity Church involves either a steep 45-minute walk or a bumpy 4×4 ride on an unpaved track, wear sturdy shoes

- · [Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/) sits at about 1,740m and is noticeably cooler than [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/), pack layers even in warmer months

- · Accommodation in [Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/) and [Sighnaghi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/sighnaghi/) is guesthouse-standard, not city-hotel standard; [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/) hotel is 3-4 star

- · Kakheti wine tastings are unhurried, expect the pace of the day to slow in the afternoon

- · Opening days and hours for Bodbe, Alaverdi and Ikalto vary by season, checked at booking

Questions

**What happens if the Military Highway is closed on our travel day?**
We substitute Ananuri and a Gudauri viewpoint and either wait a day for Gergeti Trinity Church or adjust the route; this is agreed with you in advance where possible.

**Is this a private tour or do we join other travellers?**
Private throughout, your own car, driver and guide, not shared with other groups.

**What standard are the hotels?**
Comfortable 3-4 star in [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/); [Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/) and [Sighnaghi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/sighnaghi/) use well-reviewed guesthouses, as larger hotels are limited in both towns. Options confirmed before booking.

**Can this be extended to include Svaneti or Batumi?**
Yes, see our Georgia in 7 Days or Georgia in 10 Days itineraries, which cover a wider route at a daily rate close to this one.

Prices are per person for two travelling together, in euros; solo travellers and larger groups are quoted on request. Every departure is private and adjusted to you. Hotels, wineries and restaurants on our routes are [verified by GTour](/verified/).
