A hands-on morning in [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/): bread slapped onto the clay walls of a tone oven, a cheese cellar tasting, churchkhela dipping, and the stalls of Dezerter Bazaar.

The route

[Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/)

Why this tour

- —Watch shoti bread baked the traditional way, in a tone oven heated from below, and pull your own loaf out with the baker

- —Taste at least four regional cheeses in a working maturing cellar, with explanation of each region's style

- —Dip your own churchkhela strings in grape must and take the result home once it sets

- —Finish at Dezerter Bazaar, [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/)'s main produce market, to see where the ingredients actually come from

- —Tastings run throughout, not just at the end, so you arrive hungry and leave full

- —Small private groups only, paced around your questions rather than a fixed script

Good to know

- · Wear closed shoes and clothes you do not mind smelling of woodsmoke, the bakery is warm and the oven is close by

- · Tell us about allergies or dietary restrictions when booking, cheese and walnuts both feature heavily

- · Dezerter Bazaar is open daily, but some individual stalls close on Sunday afternoons, checked at booking

- · Walking is easy and mostly flat, suitable for most fitness levels, but the market can be crowded at midday

- · Bring cash in GEL if you want to buy anything extra at the market, cards are not accepted at most stalls

Questions

**Is this suitable for vegetarians?**
Yes, the full programme is vegetarian. Churchkhela and the cheeses sampled contain no meat.

**Can children take part?**
Yes, the bakery and workshop stops work well for children old enough to handle warm dough and dipped strings carefully. Let us know ages when booking.

**What happens to the churchkhela I make?**
It needs a few days to dry fully, so we give you ours wrapped to continue drying at your hotel or to take home.

**Is this a group tour or private?**
Private, for your party only. Group size does not affect the itinerary, only the per-person price.

Prices are per person for two travelling together, in euros; solo travellers and larger groups are quoted on request. Every departure is private and adjusted to you. Hotels, wineries and restaurants on our routes are [verified by GTour](/verified/).
