Four days by 4×4 from [Kutaisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/kutaisi/) to [Mestia](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mestia/), [Ushguli](https://gtour.ge/georgia/ushguli/) and over the Zagar Pass to [Lentekhi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/lentekhi/), crossing Svaneti's high passes with a driver who knows the gravel.

The route

[Kutaisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/kutaisi/)[Mestia](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mestia/)[Ushguli](https://gtour.ge/georgia/ushguli/)[Lentekhi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/lentekhi/)

Why this tour

- —Crosses the Zagar Pass (2,620 m), the rough link road between Upper and Lower Svaneti that most itineraries skip

- —Two nights in [Mestia](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mestia/) with a full day at [Ushguli](https://gtour.ge/georgia/ushguli/), Europe's highest year-round inhabited settlement, below Mount Shkhara

- —Ends in [Lentekhi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/lentekhi/) and the Tskhenistsqali gorge, a region most visitors never reach

- —Private 4×4 with driver throughout, no shared minivans or fixed group schedules

- —Guesthouse stays each night, run by Svan families, not hotel chains

- —One continuous loop rather than an out-and-back, so you see different valleys each day

Itinerary

Day 1Pick-up in [Kutaisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/kutaisi/) and drive north through Zugdidi and the Enguri Gorge, past the Enguri Dam, into Upper Svaneti; arrive [Mestia](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mestia/) by late afternoon and walk among the medieval Svan towers before dinner at the guesthouse.

Day 2Full day by 4×4 to [Ushguli](https://gtour.ge/georgia/ushguli/) along the rough road up the Enguri valley, with stops for views of Mount Shkhara; walk among the tower-houses of the four Ushguli villages and visit the Lamaria church before returning to [Mestia](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mestia/) for the night.

Day 3Leave [Mestia](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mestia/) and climb the Zagar Pass (2,620 m) by 4×4, the seasonal track connecting Upper and Lower Svaneti; descend through forested switchbacks into the Tskhenistsqali valley and reach [Lentekhi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/lentekhi/) by evening.

Good to know

- · The Zagar Pass is a gravel mountain track, passable roughly June to October depending on snow; closed outside this window, so dates are confirmed before booking

- · High clearance 4×4 is required throughout, this is not a tour for sedans or low-clearance vehicles

- · Pack layers: [Mestia](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mestia/) and [Ushguli](https://gtour.ge/georgia/ushguli/) sit above 1,400 m and 2,000 m, with cold mornings even in summer

- · Mobile signal is patchy beyond [Mestia](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mestia/); carry cash, card machines are unreliable in [Ushguli](https://gtour.ge/georgia/ushguli/) and [Lentekhi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/lentekhi/)

- · Guesthouse bathrooms vary in size and hot-water schedule; this is a mountain trip, not a hotel circuit

- · Bring sturdy walking shoes for [Ushguli](https://gtour.ge/georgia/ushguli/)'s uneven stone paths and short walks around the towers

Questions

**Is this tour self-drive or with a driver?**
It runs with a private driver and 4×4 vehicle; the Zagar Pass and [Ushguli](https://gtour.ge/georgia/ushguli/) road are not recommended for self-drive rental cars.

**What is the Zagar Pass like?**
A narrow gravel road over 2,620 m connecting [Mestia](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mestia/) to [Lentekhi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/lentekhi/), usually open June to October; conditions are checked before each departure and the route adjusted if needed.

**Can we stop the Svaneti leg short and skip Lentekhi?**
Yes, the itinerary can end after [Ushguli](https://gtour.ge/georgia/ushguli/) with a return to [Kutaisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/kutaisi/) via the Enguri Gorge instead of the Zagar Pass; ask us to re-quote.

**What is the price for a solo traveller or a group?**
Solo €1,904, two travelling together €1,190 each, three €1,131 each, four to six €1,012 each.

Prices are per person for two travelling together, in euros; solo travellers and larger groups are quoted on request. Every departure is private and adjusted to you. Hotels, wineries and restaurants on our routes are [verified by GTour](/verified/).
