A full day in Kakheti with a qvevri maker and a winemaker, from clay firing to a vertical tasting of amber wine over cellar lunch.

The route

[Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/)[Telavi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/telavi/)

Why this tour

- —Morning visit to a working qvevri workshop near [Telavi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/telavi/), watching the clay vessels built by hand and fired in a wood kiln.

- —Afternoon with a Kakheti winemaker who opens a qvevri on site and explains racking as it happens.

- —Vertical tasting of amber (skin-contact) wines across several vintages from the same estate.

- —Lunch served in the cellar, built around Kakheti dishes paired with the wines you have just tasted.

- —Small-group format, which keeps the workshop and cellar visits personal rather than a crowd event.

- —Based around [Telavi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/telavi/), so Alaverdi and Ikalto monasteries are a short detour if the schedule allows.

Good to know

- · Drive time to Kakheti is roughly two hours each way; the day runs about nine hours door to door.

- · The workshop floor is clay and dust — wear clothes and shoes you do not mind getting dirty.

- · Cellar floors are uneven stone; low mobility or wheelchair access should be discussed at booking.

- · Tastings involve alcohol; your driver does not taste, so there is no need to limit the wine for the road.

- · Runs year-round, but winter cellar visits can be cold — bring a layer.

- · Opening days of the specific workshop and cellar are checked at booking, as small producers sometimes close for harvest work.

Questions

**Is this suitable for people who do not know much about wine?**
Yes. The winemaker explains qvevri fermentation from the start; no prior wine knowledge is assumed.

**Can children join?**
The workshop part is fine for children; the tasting is adults only. Let us know ages when booking.

**What does the day cost?**
Solo traveller €240, two travelling together €150 each, three €143 each, four to six €128 each.

**Can we combine this with a wider Kakheti itinerary?**
Yes, it pairs well with our [Telavi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/telavi/) & Kakheti Wine Region day trip or the longer Kakheti Grand Wine & Heritage tour — ask us to build a combined day.

Prices are per person for two travelling together, in euros; solo travellers and larger groups are quoted on request. Every departure is private and adjusted to you. Hotels, wineries and restaurants on our routes are [verified by GTour](/verified/).
