Two days from [Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/) to the Gergeti glacier viewpoint and, for fit walkers, the Betlemi hut area at 3,650 m, with a certified mountain guide.

The route

[Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/)

Why this tour

- —Guided trek from Gergeti Trinity Church up toward the Gergeti glacier, with an extension to the Betlemi hut area (3,650 m) for fit walkers

- —Certified mountain guide included for both days, with an altitude and safety briefing before you set out

- —One night in [Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/) splits the walking over two days instead of one long push from the valley floor

- —4×4 transfer saves the two-hour road walk up to Gergeti Trinity Church, so the trekking day starts higher

- —No technical climbing equipment required – this is a trek to the glacier and base-camp area, not a summit attempt

- —Small private group, guide carries first aid and communication equipment on the mountain

Itinerary

Good to know

- · The trail reaches roughly 3,650 m at the Betlemi hut area; some previous hiking experience is recommended

- · Weather on Kazbek changes quickly, and cloud can close the glacier view even when the valley below is clear

- · Best season is June to September; snow and ice can block the upper trail outside these months, checked at booking

- · Bring sturdy waterproof boots, warm layers and sun protection, even in summer

- · The Georgian Military Highway can close after heavy snow or rockfall; check https://gtour.ge/road-status/ before travelling

- · This is not a summit climb – no technical mountaineering equipment is used or required

Questions

**Do we reach the summit of Mount Kazbek?**
No. This tour treks to the Gergeti glacier viewpoint and the Betlemi hut area at 3,650 m. Summiting Kazbek is a separate technical climb requiring mountaineering equipment and is not part of this itinerary.

**How fit do I need to be?**
You should be comfortable walking 5 to 7 hours at altitude with sustained ascent. The extension to the Betlemi hut area is optional and best suited to experienced hikers.

**Is transport from Tbilisi included?**
No, the tour starts in [Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/). A private transfer from Tbilisi can be added and is quoted separately, checked at booking.

**What happens if the weather closes in?**
Your guide will adjust the route or turn back before the glacier if conditions are unsafe. Your night in [Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/) and the overall itinerary are unaffected.

Prices are per person for two travelling together, in euros; solo travellers and larger groups are quoted on request. Every departure is private and adjusted to you. Hotels, wineries and restaurants on our routes are [verified by GTour](/verified/).
