The GTour travel desk is an English-language newsroom about travelling in Georgia, run from Tbilisi by GTour, the travel company of Castle in Old Town. It was started in 2026 because no publication in English covered the practical side of a trip to Georgia every day: entry rules, insurance, road and pass closures, flights, festivals, prices, health and safety.
Rules and entry; roads, passes and weather; flights and getting here; events and seasons; health and insurance; food, wine and culture; the regions of Georgia; and rankings of places we have verified ourselves.
Primary sources first: the Georgian National Tourism Administration, the National Statistics Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and consular service, the Roads Department, the National Environmental Agency, the Agency of Protected Areas, airports and airlines, the Ministry of Culture, municipalities and embassy advisories. Every news item names its source and links to it. Where we add our own judgement — what a closure means for your trip, whether a rule is being enforced — we say so.
GTour is founded by Prof. Giorgi Pkhakadze, MD, MPH, PhD, a physician and public-health professor based in Tbilisi and Geneva, who reviews everything we publish about health, insurance and safety. The desk is staffed by Georgian journalists who live here and travel the country. See Our authors.
