Shekvetili is a small resort village in Guria, on the flat coastal plain between Kobuleti and Ureki, and it is worth a stop less for summer bathing than for what it offers once the crowds have thinned. By late October, the swimming season proper has passed, but the village’s two anchor attractions, a transplanted botanical park and an open-air amphitheatre, remain accessible and are easier to appreciate without the midsummer scale of visitors.

The Shekvetili Dendrological Park, also known locally as Sameba Park, is the main reason to build a half-day here. It was created by moving hundreds of mature trees, some decades old and some weighing many tonnes, from sites across Georgia into a single landscaped garden by the sea. Paved paths, ponds and viewing terraces make for an easy, flat walk, and autumn light suits the mature canopy well. Nearby, the Black Sea Arena, built in the mid-2010s, is a landmark in its own right, visible from the beach road even when no event is scheduled; travellers hoping to catch a performance should check current listings before planning around it, since the season runs through summer.

### Who it suits and what to combine it with

Shekvetili in October suits travellers who want a calm coastal pause rather than an active beach holiday: walkers interested in the dendrological park, those curious about Guria’s modern resort development, and anyone threading a route along the coast between Batumi and Kobuleti who wants a quieter overnight or day stop. The beach itself, with its fine, dark, iron-rich sand, the same geological feature long associated with neighbouring Ureki, is worth a walk even out of season, though travellers should treat its reputed therapeutic qualities as local tradition rather than established fact.

It combines naturally with the Guria hinterland just inland, where tea, hazelnut and citrus plantations have shaped the rural economy since Soviet times; a short drive brings visitors into this greener, slower landscape, and smaller local producers offer wine tasting for those extending the day. Shekvetili also works well as part of a longer coastal itinerary, paired with Batumi’s city attractions an hour away or Kobuleti’s longer beachfront a short drive north.

Shekvetili is reached from Tbilisi in about 5 h 15 min by road via the Rikoti Pass and the coastal highway, from Kutaisi in roughly 1 h 55 min, and from Batumi in about an hour, making it a straightforward day trip from either Kutaisi or Batumi. Marshrutkas run from Tbilisi’s Didube station toward Batumi or Kobuleti, with a change for the final stretch, while the nearest railway stops are at Kobuleti and Ureki, each a short taxi ride from the village.
