A six-day crossing on foot from Tusheti to Khevsureti over the Atsunta Pass, linking the tower villages of Dartlo, Mutso and Shatili.
| День 1 | Drive from Tbilisi to Omalo over the Abano Pass by 4x4, a rough unpaved road that takes most of the day; overnight in a guesthouse in Omalo. |
| День 2 | Trek from Omalo to Dartlo, three to four hours through pine forest and pasture along the Tushetis Alazani river; overnight in a guesthouse in Dartlo among its stone defensive towers. |
| День 3 | Trek from Dartlo to Girevi, the last inhabited village before the pass, five to six hours with a steady climb; camp near Girevi. |
| День 4 | Cross the Atsunta Pass at 3,431 m, the high point of the trek, then descend toward Khidotani on the Khevsureti side; a long day, seven to eight hours, with no villages en route so carry water and lunch. |
| День 5 | Continue down through Khevsureti to Mutso, an abandoned fortress village on a rock spur above the Arghuni valley, then on to Shatili; five to six hours, mostly downhill. |
| День 6 | Explore Shatili's interlocked tower-houses in the morning, then drive back to Tbilisi, five to six hours on mountain roads; arrival evening. |
Do we need previous trekking experience for this route?
No technical climbing is involved, but you should be comfortable walking six to eight hours a day on uneven mountain terrain for six consecutive days.
What happens if the Atsunta Pass is closed by weather?
Your guide monitors conditions daily; if the pass is not safe on the planned day we adjust the schedule and wait, or in rare cases reroute, the border-zone permit covers the full area.
Can we do this trip outside July to mid-September?
No, we do not run this route outside that window because of snow on the pass; for other seasons we can suggest our Tusheti — Georgia's Last Wild Frontier (4 Days) tour, which does not cross Atsunta.
Is the group size fixed or can we book privately?
The price shown is for two travelling together; solo travellers and larger groups are quoted separately, contact us with your dates.
