Tbilisi's Soviet modernism in one afternoon: the Ministry of Highways building, the Nutsubidze skybridge, mosaic metro stations and the Chronicles of Georgia.
| 09:00 | Pickup from your central Tbilisi hotel by private car with your architect-guide. |
| 09:15 | Exterior viewing of the Ministry of Highways building, now Bank of Georgia headquarters; the guide explains its cantilevered structural system and the circumstances of its 1975 completion. Interior access is not possible, this is a working office building. |
| 09:45 | Drive to the Nutsubidze Plateau and the skybridge, a Soviet-era pedestrian link built between two residential tower blocks. |
| 10:15 | Drive to one or two metro stations on the Tbilisi network to see Soviet mosaic and marble work in the platform halls, walking between trains during normal service. |
| 11:00 | Drive to the Chronicles of Georgia monument above the Tbilisi Sea reservoir for the hilltop view and a discussion of the site's unfinished 1980s sculptural programme. |
| 11:45 | Visit to the Archaeological Museum building, with attention to its Soviet-period architecture and display design; entrance ticket checked at booking. |
| 12:30 | Drop-off at your hotel or a central address. |
Can we go inside the Ministry of Highways building?
No, it is the working headquarters of Bank of Georgia. The visit is an exterior view with the guide explaining the structure from the street.
Is this tour suitable for limited mobility?
Partly. The skybridge and the Chronicles of Georgia site involve uneven ground and some steps; the metro stations have lifts on some lines. Tell us in advance and we will adjust the route.
What happens if a metro station is closed for maintenance?
We substitute a nearby station with comparable mosaic work; this is decided on the day by your guide.
Can this be combined with another Tbilisi tour on the same day?
Yes, it works well as a half-day either before or after our Old Town or Mtskheta itineraries. Ask us when booking.
