[Kutaisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/kutaisi/) International Airport (KUT) is Georgia’s low-cost hub, served mainly by Wizz Air and, more recently, seasonal Ryanair routes to Europe. It sits about 25 minutes from Kutaisi city, roughly 3.5 to 4 hours from [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/) and 2.5 to 3 hours from [Batumi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/batumi/) by road, so almost every passenger needs a bus, taxi or pre-booked transfer the moment they land. The single detail that catches most first-time visitors out is timing: many budget flights arrive between midnight and 3am, when scheduled coaches, car-rental desks and even some ATMs are not staffed.

This guide sets out, plainly and without guesswork, how to get from KUT to Tbilisi, Batumi or Kutaisi itself at any hour, what the Georgian Bus and Omnibus shuttle services look like, where taxis and car hire stand, and how to handle a 2am landing without wasting a night in the terminal. Prices below that are ours are fixed and quoted in writing; prices quoted by bus operators and taxi ranks change through the year, and we say exactly where to check them before you fly.

### Scheduled buses: Georgian Bus, Omnibus and the KUT shuttle network

Two private coach operators, commonly known at the airport as Georgian Bus and Omnibus, run shuttles timed to incoming Wizz Air and Ryanair arrivals, with routes to Tbilisi, Batumi and the 10-minute hop into Kutaisi city. Coaches generally wait in the car park directly outside arrivals and depart once passengers from the relevant flight have cleared immigration and baggage, rather than on a fixed clock, which is useful if your flight is delayed. Tickets are usually bought from a desk or the driver in cash (Georgian lari) or card; fares and timetables are adjusted each season, so confirm the current price and the next departure at the airport information desk or on the operator’s own counter in the arrivals hall before you commit, and check the airport’s own transport page for the latest list of carriers and approximate frequencies.

- Kutaisi city centre: short hop, frequent, cheapest option, suitable at almost any arrival time since taxis fill the gap when buses have stopped for the night.

- Tbilisi: 3.5 to 4 hours depending on the route taken (via Rikoti Pass or the newer highway sections); daytime departures are reliable, late-night departures are not guaranteed, so check in advance.

- Batumi: 2.5 to 3 hours along the coastal and [Guria](https://gtour.ge/georgia/guria/) road; seasonal demand is higher in summer, so buses can sell out around popular flight times.

If your flight lands outside normal daytime hours, do not assume a coach will be waiting. Ask at the information desk whether the next shuttle is scheduled or has simply been cancelled for the night.

### The 2am arrivals problem, and three ways to solve it

Wizz Air and Ryanair schedule several Kutaisi rotations to land in the early hours, sometimes as late as 2am or 3am local time, because the aircraft is based in Georgia overnight and flies back to Europe before dawn. At that hour, scheduled buses to Tbilisi and Batumi are often suspended, car-rental counters are unstaffed, and only a handful of taxis wait outside. Three realistic options:

- **Stay the first night in Kutaisi.** The city is 20 to 25 minutes away, has guesthouses and hotels open to late check-in, and lets you start the long drive to Tbilisi or Batumi in daylight. This is the option we recommend for most travellers, and it pairs naturally with a day on the [Martvili](https://gtour.ge/georgia/martvili/) & Okatse Canyons + Prometheus Cave day trip from Kutaisi or the longer Kutaisi & Western Georgia 3 Days itinerary before heading onward.

- **Book a private transfer in advance.** A pre-arranged car meets you at arrivals with a name board regardless of the hour, with no night surcharge and flight tracking in case your flight is delayed, so there is no bus to miss and no negotiation at 2am. See the fixed prices below.

- **Take a taxi, but agree the price first.** Official airport taxis operate around the clock; agree the fare before getting in, or use a ride-hailing app if you have a local SIM and data already working, since taxi ranks at small airports at night are where overcharging is most common.

Before any long overnight drive, check current road conditions, since the Rikoti Pass and mountain sections can be affected by weather outside the summer months; our own road-status page and Georgia’s state road agency both publish live updates.

### Taxis and private transfers: fixed prices

Metered taxis are not standard practice at Georgian airports; agree the fare in advance or book ahead. Our own transfers are fixed in writing before you fly, available at any hour with no night surcharge, and include meeting you at arrivals with a name board, flight tracking, 60 minutes of free waiting, child seats, tolls and parking.

Full fixed prices for routes across Georgia, and for a car with an English-speaking driver by the day, are listed on our services and data pages.

### Car rental at Kutaisi airport

Several international and local car-hire brands keep desks in the small arrivals hall, generally opening to coincide with scheduled flights rather than around the clock. For night arrivals, confirm your booking includes an after-hours pickup arrangement, or collect the car the following morning and spend the first night in Kutaisi as above. If you plan to drive into Svaneti, Tusheti or over winter mountain passes, a 4×4 rather than a sedan is the safer and often the required choice; our car-with-driver service offers the same vehicle classes with an English-speaking driver if you would rather not navigate unfamiliar mountain roads yourself.

### Train and bus alternatives from Kutaisi city

Kutaisi city (not the airport) has its own railway connection to Tbilisi, run by Georgian Railway, which can be a comfortable daytime alternative to the highway if you have already reached the centre by taxi or shuttle. Long-distance marshrutka minibuses to Tbilisi, Batumi and other regions also depart from Kutaisi’s bus stations rather than the airport itself, so factor in the short transfer into town if you intend to use them instead of an airport shuttle.

### Luggage storage, ATMs and SIM cards

Kutaisi airport is compact, and a dedicated left-luggage counter is not always staffed; ask at the information desk on arrival, and if none is available, most Kutaisi city guesthouses will hold bags for a few hours while you take a short canyon or wine day trip. ATMs in the arrivals hall dispense Georgian lari and generally accept international cards, though it is worth carrying a small amount of cash for taxis and bus tickets in case a machine is offline overnight. Mobile operator desks selling local SIM cards (prepaid data and calls) are usually present for daytime flights; if you land at night, an eSIM activated before departure avoids the problem entirely.

### Visa and entry basics before you land

Most EU, UK, US and many other passport holders can enter Georgia visa-free for a set period; check your nationality against the current list and any conditions on Georgia’s e-Visa portal and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website before travelling, since rules are set by the government and can be updated. Carry your passport and any printed confirmation if requested at the border desk inside the terminal.

### Plan your onward trip with GTOUR

If Kutaisi is your gateway rather than your destination, it sits close to some of western Georgia’s best day trips. We run the Martvili & Okatse Canyons + Prometheus Cave day trip from Kutaisi, a three-day Kutaisi & Western Georgia itinerary that combines the cave monasteries and canyons with Batumi’s coast, and multi-day routes into Svaneti via Mestia & [Ushguli](https://gtour.ge/georgia/ushguli/) for travellers continuing into the high mountains. All of these can be combined with a fixed-price airport transfer or a car with an English-speaking driver, with full current prices on our services and data pages.

### Practical summary

- Expect Wizz Air and Ryanair flights at KUT to sometimes land in the early hours; confirm whether your scheduled bus runs that late before relying on it.

- Georgian Bus and Omnibus shuttles meet flights for Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi city; buy tickets at the arrivals counter and verify current prices and times there, since they change seasonally.

- Kutaisi city is 20 to 25 minutes away and a sensible first stop after a night landing rather than a 3.5 to 4 hour onward drive in the dark.

- Pre-booked private transfers run at any hour with no night surcharge; fixed prices start at €35 to Kutaisi city and €190 to Tbilisi.

- Agree taxi fares before boarding; car-rental desks mostly keep daytime hours, so confirm after-hours pickup in advance.

- Left-luggage service is not guaranteed at the small terminal; ask at the information desk or arrange storage with a Kutaisi guesthouse.

- Check road conditions for the Rikoti Pass and mountain routes before any long drive, especially outside summer months.

- Confirm your visa-free entry status and carry ID documents before landing.
