### In short

Zangaura is a family-run winery in the village of Akhalsofeli, in the Kvareli district of Kakheti. The winery says its vineyard, planted on a south-facing slope, has been worked by the same family since 1924. Zangaura describes itself as a producer of “rare Georgian wines,” and its list draws on more than 50 native Georgian grape varieties grown across 53 hectares, with wines made in both the European style and in qvevri. Tastings are offered by prior arrangement from Thursday to Sunday.

### The estate and its history

According to the winery, the vineyard on Zangaura’s south-facing slope has been cultivated by one family since 1924, and the estate presents its wine as the product of patient, hands-on winemaking passed down through that family. The site states that each bottle comes from a single harvest, vinified on the estate and matured in local oak barrels. Zangaura says it works with indigenous varieties and natural fermentation, aiming for wines that reflect the vintage, the place and the people who made them.

- 1924 — the family begins working the vineyard on the south-facing slope, per the winery’s own account

- Present day — the estate cultivates 53 hectares and produces wine from more than 50 Georgian grape varieties

No further dated milestones, ownership changes or construction dates for the winery buildings are given on the official website.

The site describes a focus on natural fermentation and local oak barrel ageing, and lists several wines made in qvevri alongside wines made in the European style, without giving separate production volumes for each method.
