Subeliani Winery is a small wine producer located in the Kvemo Kartli region, on Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani street. It was founded in 2017 by vigneron and winemaker Emzar Subeliani, who originates from Abkhazia and has established the winery as part of the growing wave of boutique producers exploring the winemaking potential of areas beyond Georgia’s traditional Kakheti heartland.

Kvemo Kartli lies south of Tbilisi and is known for its mixed landscape of lowland plains and the Trialeti mountain range, along with cultural sites such as Bolnisi Sioni church and the Dmanisi archaeological site. Subeliani Winery was founded by vigneron and winemaker Emzar Subeliani in 2017.

Emzar is from Abkhazia — the currently occupied region of Georgia. Despite the fact that Emzar’s family members were not actively involved in wine production, he became interested in vineyards during his childhood. Emzar states that “My grandfather was originally from Upper Svaneti, but he moved to Kodori, a region famous for Odesa vine variety. During the Soviet period, you could also find Tsolikouri vineyards there; however, due to the low yield, the collective farm cut down the vineyards en masse and concentrate
