Pongino Wine is a small winery situated in the village of Khashmi, in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia. Kakheti is the country’s principal wine-producing area, known for its ancient winemaking traditions, vineyards stretching across the Alazani Valley, and qvevri-based production methods that have been recognised as part of Georgia’s cultural heritage.

Khashmi lies within the rural landscape typical of Kakheti, where small family-run wineries sit alongside larger estates. Visitors travelling through the region can combine a stop here with visits to nearby towns such as Telavi, Sighnaghi, or Gurjaani, as well as historic monasteries and churches that dot the area. The region is reachable from Tbilisi by road, making it a common day-trip or weekend destination for those exploring Georgian wine culture.

This winery suits travellers interested in smaller, locally rooted producers rather than large commercial estates, and those keen to experience the rural character of Kakheti’s wine villages alongside its broader cultural and culinary offerings.

Our winery Pongino Wine is located in the village of Khashmi. Kakheti region. This is the smallest microzone in Georgia where a completely different and special red dry wine Khashmi Saperavi is produced. Also, during your visit to us, you can taste: Rkatsiteli, Manavi, Muscat, Kisi and several types of liqueurs and chacha.

    With us you can enjoy traditional Georgian dishes and cook them yourself.

    You can also enjoy Georgian polyphonic music.

    You will be met by a female host in a national costume. And if you wish, you will have the opportunity to take a Georgian dance master class.
