Lomtadze’s Marani is a small wine cellar (marani) located in the village of Velistsikhe, within Gurjaani municipality in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia. Kakheti is the country’s principal wine-producing area, known for its traditional qvevri winemaking method and extensive vineyards spread across the Alazani Valley.

Velistsikhe sits amid this winegrowing landscape, within reach of the larger town of Gurjaani and other well-known Kakhetian centers such as Telavi and Sighnaghi, which are popular stops for visitors exploring the region’s wine culture, churches and rural scenery. The area is typically reached by road from Tbilisi or from Telavi, which serves as a common base for touring Kakheti’s wine routes.

As a small marani, this cellar suits visitors interested in a modest, local-scale introduction to Georgian winemaking traditions, complementing the larger wineries and tasting rooms found elsewhere in Gurjaani municipality and the wider Kakheti wine region.

Lomtadze`s  Marani  Velistsikhe  is a small  Marani (Cellar), which is located in  Gurjaani municipality, village Velistsikhe.   The abovementioned Marani was  built in the early 20th century, in the Cellar, there are 24 Pitchers (“Qvevri” – The big Pottery, which is placed in  the ground) which are made in 1900-1905 years, and The  Winepress (“Satsnakheli”), which is decorated with brick ornaments.

     The uniqueness of the Marani is that the traditional  Kakhetian method of wine making  hasn’t not been stopped here for more than a century.  The Family has vineyards of  Gvinis Tetri, Rkatsi
