David Leladze’s Family Marani is a small-scale wine producer located in the village of Rokhi, within Baghdati Municipality in the Imereti region of western Georgia. The marani continues a winemaking tradition that, according to the family’s own account, traces back to 1890, when a wine cellar was first built in the village by an earlier generation of the family.

Imereti is known for its qvevri winemaking traditions and distinctive indigenous grape varieties, and Baghdati Municipality sits amid the rolling hills and river valleys typical of the region, within reach of other Imeretian villages and the regional center of Kutaisi. Visitors travelling through the area can combine a stop here with exploration of the wider Imereti wine route and the natural and cultural sites the region is known for.

This marani suits travelers interested in family-run wine cellars, those following Imereti’s wine trail, and visitors curious about multigenerational Georgian winemaking practices rooted in a specific village setting rather than a large commercial estate.

Winemaking is a way of life in my family. I am the fourth generation to continue this tradition. My great-grandfather started winemaking in 1890 when he was 35 years old. In my cellar, I
