Casa de Khasia is a family-run guest house situated in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region of western Georgia, on Grigol Orbeliani Street. The setting places guests within a historic urban area typical of the region’s lowland towns, where traditional architecture and local markets sit alongside quieter residential streets suited to overnight stays.

Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti is known for combining lowland Mingrelian culture with access to the high mountain villages of Svaneti, home to the medieval defensive towers of Ushguli and Mestia. Travelers based in this area typically use it as a stopover between the Black Sea coast and the mountain routes leading north, with regional transport connections linking towns such as Zugdidi to Svaneti and the coastal Samegrelo lowlands. Nearby points of interest generally include local museums, churches, and the natural landscapes the wider region is known for, from river valleys to forested foothills.

Described as cozy and family-run, Casa de Khasia suits travelers seeking a modest, homely base for exploring Samegrelo’s towns or preparing for onward trips into Svaneti, rather than guests looking for a large-scale hotel experience.

Casa de Khasia – The Harmony of Hospitality

Casa de Khasia is a cozy and comfortable family-run guesthouse located in the heart of Zugdidi. The interior design blends vintage charm with modern amenities, creating a warm and convenient environment for guests. The beautifully arranged, green courtyard and patio with an outdoor fireplace make spending time outside especially pleasant. The thoughtfully designed interior often evokes a nostalgic feeling—many guests describe it as the emotion of “returning to grandmother’s home.”

In the yard stands an old Megrelian jarvali—a traditional cooking space—furnished with items, tools, and décor typical of historical Samegrelo households. Visitors often remark that it feels like a small, authentic museum. Upon request, guests can enjoy breakfast or dinner in this unique ethnographic setting.

Since the day of its founding, the hosts have been dedicated to rediscovering and revitalizing traditional Megrelian recipes to feature on the Casa de Khasia menu. Guests especially enjoy participating in culinary masterclasses: preparing gebzhalia, making ghomi, and baking khachapuri on a stone angura—all of which is cooked over an open fire in the jarvali, making the experience both fun and memorable.

Casa de Khasia means “the House of the Khasias.” Khasia is our family name, and we warmly welcome guests into our home—the home of the Khasia family.

Visit Samegrelo and experience the true harmony of our hospitality.
