February is Georgia’s ski month: Gudauri and [Bakuriani](https://gtour.ge/georgia/bakuriani/) run at full capacity, [Svaneti](https://gtour.ge/georgia/svaneti/)‘s newer lifts at Tetnuldi and Hatsvali open fresh terrain, and snow depth on the [Georgian Military Highway](https://gtour.ge/georgia/gudauri/) is usually at its deepest of the winter. At the same time [Tbilisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/tbilisi/) is at its most liveable for a city break, with cafés, museums and the sulphur baths filling the gap between slope days, and [Kakheti](https://gtour.ge/georgia/kakheti/)‘s wine cellars are open for quieter, by-the-fire tastings once the autumn rush of Rtveli has long finished.

The short answer for a first-time planner: base yourself in Tbilisi (1.5 to 2.5 hours from any of the three main ski areas), budget for cold, dry mountain air and occasional heavy snowfall that can close the Jvari Pass for hours, and book ski accommodation and 4×4 transfers in advance because February half-term weeks in Europe and Israel push Gudauri close to capacity. Below is what to expect, region by region, with current GTour prices and the official pages to check before you travel, since lift prices, pass rules and [road status](https://gtour.ge/today/) change through the season.

### Weather and snow: what February actually looks like

Georgia in February sits in the coldest, driest part of the Caucasus winter. Tbilisi is generally a few degrees above freezing by day and below it at night, with grey spells rather than deep snow; Kakheti is similar but with sharper frosts; the high mountain resorts hold a solid snowpack built up since December. Exact snow depth varies year to year and week to week, so always check current conditions rather than relying on averages.

| Location | Typical February character | Where to check live conditions |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Tbilisi | Cold, often dry; occasional snow showers, more fog than storm | [National Environment Agency forecasts](https://nea.gov.ge/En) |
| Gudauri (2,200m base) | Reliable base snow, frequent fresh falls, wind on upper lifts | gudauri.travel, mountainresorts.ge |
| Bakuriani (1,700m base) | Gentler, more sheltered snowpack, good for beginners | mountainresorts.ge |
| Kakheti ([Telavi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/telavi/)/[Sighnaghi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/sighnaghi/)) | Cold, often clear, vineyards bare and dormant | [georgia.travel](https://georgia.travel/en) |
| Georgian Military Highway | Heaviest snowfall of any road corridor, periodic closures | [Roads Department of Georgia](https://georoad.gov.ge/en) |

The one rule worth repeating every season: the Jvari Pass between Tbilisi and Gudauri/Kazbegi closes without much notice during heavy snow or avalanche control work. Build a spare half-day into any February itinerary that crosses it, and check the Roads Department page the morning you travel.

### Gudauri: Georgia’s main ski resort

Gudauri remains the country’s largest and best-equipped resort, with open, mostly treeless bowls that suit intermediate and advanced skiers, plus a well-established heli-ski and freeride scene on the Kudebi and Sadzele ridges. February is peak season here: book lodging and transfers well ahead, especially around the mid-month school holidays common in the UK, Israel and parts of Europe.

GTour runs a Gudauri Ski Package — 5 Nights with Transfers and Ski Pass (6 days/5 nights) from €2,224 solo or €1,390 per person for two, down to €1,182 each for four to six people. For serious off-piste days there is the Gudauri Heliski and Freeride Week (6 days/5 nights) from €5,584 solo or €2,967 each for a group of four to six. If you only want the mountain transfer, the Tbilisi to Gudauri Transfer — Ski Season 4×4 (2 to 2.5 hours) runs from €224 solo to €119 each for four to six. Those who want skiing bundled with a wider Georgia trip should look at Georgia in Winter — Gudauri Skiing, Tbilisi and Kakheti (6 Days), from €2,544 solo or €1,352 each for four to six.

Always confirm current lift-pass prices and operating hours directly with the resort operator before you fly, since these are revised each season.

### Bakuriani: families, beginners and a gentler pace

Bakuriani sits lower and more sheltered than Gudauri, with shorter, gentler runs, a dedicated children’s area, and a town atmosphere built around guesthouses, hot food stalls and the narrow-gauge “Kukushka” line rather than nightlife. It suits first-time skiers, young families and anyone who wants quieter slopes without giving up reliable snow.

GTour’s Bakuriani Family Winter — 4 Nights of Gentle Slopes and Sledging (5 days/4 nights) runs from €1,584 solo or €842 each for four to six travellers, and combines well with the spa town of [Borjomi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/borjomi/) nearby. A day-trip option, Borjomi and Bakuriani — Spa Town and Mountain Air in a Day (10 hours), costs from €312 solo or €166 each for four to six, useful if you are based in Tbilisi and only have one day to spare. For a private transfer, the Tbilisi to Borjomi or Bakuriani Transfer (2.5 to 3 hours) is €256 solo down to €136 each for four to six.

### Svaneti skiing: an alternative for powder and scenery

[Mestia](https://gtour.ge/georgia/mestia/)‘s two lift areas, Hatsvali and the higher, newer Tetnuldi, offer fewer crowds than Gudauri and some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the Caucasus, with Svan defensive towers visible from several runs. The trade-off is distance: Mestia is roughly 8 hours by road from Tbilisi or about 4.5 hours from [Kutaisi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/kutaisi/), and February weather can close the [Zugdidi](https://gtour.ge/georgia/zugdidi/)–Mestia road for short periods, so flexible dates matter more here than at Gudauri.

GTour’s Svaneti Ski — Tetnuldi and Hatsvali, 5 Nights in Mestia (6 days/5 nights) is priced from €2,064 solo or €1,097 each for four to six. The Tbilisi or Kutaisi to Mestia — Private 4×4 Transfer costs from €624 solo to €332 each for four to six, and should be booked with a buffer day either side in February.

### Tbilisi in February: cafés, baths and indoor culture

With the ski resorts handling the mountain days, Tbilisi in February is best used for slow mornings in Old Town cafés, museum visits, and the sulphur baths of Abanotubani, which are at their most appealing precisely because the city outside is cold. The Old Town’s covered arcades and narrow lanes also shelter well from wind, making walking tours practical even on grey days.

- Old Tbilisi Walking Tour — 3 Hours with a Licensed Guide, from €120 solo or €64 each for four to six

- Sulphur Baths Experience — Abanotubani History and a Private Bath Room (2.5 hours), from €176 solo or €94 each for four to six

- Tbilisi Natural Wine Evening — Three Bars, Twelve Wines (3.5 hours), from €152 solo or €81 each for four to six

- Street Art, Courtyards and Fabrika — the New Tbilisi Walk (3 hours), from €120 solo or €64 each for four to six

- Soviet Tbilisi — Modernist Architecture and Mosaics (3.5 hours), from €152 solo or €81 each for four to six

Since Orthodox Christmas (7 January) and Epiphany celebrations are over by February, the city is calmer than in early January but still fully open, and hotel rates are typically softer than during the New Year peak. Check the GNTA’s cultural calendar for any temporary museum closures or exhibition changes before you plan a tight schedule.

### Winter Kakheti: cellars by the fire

Kakheti’s harvest (Rtveli) finishes in October, so February tastings happen indoors, around qvevri cellars and wood stoves, with winemakers generally more available for conversation than during the September rush. Vineyards are bare and the Alazani Valley can be crisp and clear, with the Caucasus ridge visible from Sighnaghi on good days.

GTour’s Winter Kakheti — Cellars by the Fire, 2 Days (2 days/1 night) is priced from €784 solo or €417 each for four to six, and pairs well with a single-day option such as Kakheti Classic — Sighnaghi, [Bodbe](https://gtour.ge/georgia/bodbe/) and Two Cellars in a Day (10 hours), from €344 solo or €183 each for four to six. For a private one-way transfer, Tbilisi to Kakheti Transfer — Telavi or Sighnaghi costs from €192 solo down to €102 each for four to six. Georgia’s state wine body publishes production and export rules that cellars must follow year-round; details are on the official wine agency page if you want background before a tasting.

### Combining ski and city in one trip

Most visitors in February split their time between one ski base and Tbilisi, rather than trying to cover Gudauri, Bakuriani and Svaneti in a single trip, since road time between them is significant in winter conditions. A practical shape is three or four nights skiing, two or three nights in Tbilisi, and a single day in Kakheti. GTour’s Georgia in Winter — Gudauri Skiing, Tbilisi and Kakheti (6 Days), from €2,544 solo or €1,352 each for four to six, is built around exactly this pattern. For couples who want the mountains without organising logistics themselves, the Winter Kazbegi — Snowshoes, Gergeti and the Rooms Hotel, 2 Days package, from €784 solo or €417 each for four to six, adds a snowshoe walk to the Gergeti Trinity Church above [Stepantsminda](https://gtour.ge/georgia/stepantsminda/) as a lower-intensity alternative to downhill skiing.

If you are driving yourself, note that a standard sedan is not adequate for the Jvari Pass or the Zugdidi–Mestia road once snow is falling; GTour’s car-with-driver and 4×4 transfer services switch to appropriate vehicles automatically for winter routes, and self-drive clients should check the Roads Department’s page for chain or snow-tyre requirements before setting out.

### Practical summary

- Expect Tbilisi a few degrees above freezing by day, colder at night; dress for wind at altitude in Gudauri and Bakuriani.

- Book Gudauri accommodation and ski transfers early for the February school-holiday weeks.

- Use a 4×4 for the Georgian Military Highway and the Mestia road in winter; sedans are not sufficient.

- Check the Roads Department page the morning you travel, since the Jvari Pass closes without much notice.

- Confirm current lift-pass prices and hours directly with Gudauri and Bakuriani operators before departure.

- Kakheti wine cellars are open but harvest-season events have finished; book ahead for a seat by the fire.

- Verify museum and event opening hours on the GNTA cultural calendar before a tight Tbilisi schedule.

- For any custom combination of skiing, Tbilisi and Kakheti, GTour prices are fixed in writing before you travel.
