### Why they come

Half of all visits (49.6%) were for holiday, leisure and recreation; a quarter were to visit friends and relatives; 12% were transit to another country.

### Where they go

[Tbilisi](/georgia/tbilisi/) received 875,500 visits and [Adjara](/georgia/ajara/) (Batumi and the coast) 621,300; the next regions were [Imereti](/georgia/imereti/), [Mtskheta-Mtianeti](/georgia/mtskheta-mtianeti/) (Kazbegi, Gudauri) and [Kakheti](/georgia/kakheti/). Summer is Adjara’s season; in the winter quarter the mountain regions take a larger share.

### The year in context

The National Tourism Administration reported a record 5.52 million tourist arrivals and 7.8 million international visitors for 2025, with arrivals from the EU and the UK up 14%, Israel up 29.4%, China up 44.4% and Saudi Arabia up 9.1% on 2024 ([1tv.ge, January 2026](https://1tv.ge/lang/en/news/national-tourism-administration-georgia-welcomes-record-5-5-million-tourists-in-2025/)). The first half of 2026 was softer: Geostat’s quarterly figures show arrivals down 4.9% in Q2 after regional conflicts reduced travel from neighbouring markets, while visits from the EU and the UK continued to grow. The next Geostat release (Q3 2026, July–September) is due at the end of October 2026 and will be added here.

### Definitions and method

- A *traveller* is anyone crossing the border; a *visitor* is a non-resident traveller aged 15 or over on a trip outside their usual environment for less than a year, excluding workers, diplomats, armed forces and frequent border-crossers (UN Tourism definitions used by Geostat).

- A *tourist* is a visitor with at least one overnight stay; a *same-day visitor* (excursionist) has none.

- Figures are from Geostat’s quarterly inbound tourism survey and border statistics; percentages may not sum to 100 because of rounding.
